The withdrawal of piles of stones ended on the beach of Hammam Lif, in the governorate of Ben Arous, after the company in charge of the site completed the abolition of the last breeze-weeds installed along the coast.
The municipality of Hammam LIF announced the closure of this work, launched last October, marking the disappearance of all the breeze-Lames that occupied the beach. She pointed out that the sea currents began to circulate again naturally, pending the gradual return of the ecological balance of the area.
Indeed, the installation of eight breeze-weaks over a distance of 1,300 meters, in the early 1980s, intended to protect the coastal city against marine erosion, had generated environmental problems. This device has disrupted the quality of the waters and deteriorated the maritime living environment.
The slowdown in the natural circulation of the sea had prevented sea herbaries, such as cymodoceae and posidonies, to follow their usual movement between the open sea and the shore. Consequence: the beach has become a source of waste and bad odors.
The expected return of marine currents throughout the beach should make it possible to reduce the phenomena of marine pollution and to restore the maritime facade its natural vitality, pending the complete elimination of other sources of pollution.
