The president of the party “The Third Republic”, Olfa Hamdi, decided to try the impossible: to make her voice heard to President Kaïs Saïed, in an open letter, publicly broadcast on Facebook on March 25, 2025. The message? A hand -stretched offer to save Tunisia … but not without some conditions.
Ms. Hamdi, at the head of her unreasonal party, depicted the country’s economic situation as a national emergency, with sovereign reserves in free fall and a debt that climbs faster than a Tunisian house roof under a downpour. Faced with these challenges, the president proposes, no more or less, than national cooperation to prevent everything from smoke. But do not be mistaken, this cooperation has nothing to do with a game of scrabble with friends, it is a question of saving the furniture.
It recalls, in a solemn tone, that the era of institutional reconstruction is indeed over, like winter with melted snow. The constitutional project is finished, the president of the council of regions and districts has been elected and now, according to Ms. Hamdi, the president must be satisfied with his role as “guarantor of institutions”. That is to say, be there to open the door when others come to offer ideas and solutions, but without necessarily participating. Basically, “we are waiting for you to act, but not too close to decisions”.
Olfa Hamdi insists that his party is not there to oppose, no, not at all! She prefers to reach out, hoping that the president will accept it and that together, they will “save Tunisia”. But beware, it is not a simple exchange of politeness, it is a question of responding to a “constitutional requirement”. No, not a simple suggestion, a legal obligation to open dialogue with national forces, to avoid ending up as a bad remake of history.
Finally, the icing on the cake: a rescue government, of course, with three strategic priorities: the immediate implementation of the Court, the development of an economic emergency plan and, of course, the activation of social dialogue. But Olfa Hamdi fears nothing: his party is ready to “actively contribute”, which, in political language, probably means “we have solutions, but you have to listen to us first”.
