The Abderrahmen Mami University Hospital Center in Ariana has just taken a new stage in the medical field. For the first time in a Tunisian public establishment, a pulmonary cryobiopsy was successfully carried out.
This innovative intervention was led by a team led by Professor Nawel Chaouch, thus marking a major advance in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases.
Pulmonary cryobiopsy is based on a tissue sampling technique carried out by endoscopy, without resorting to invasive surgery. It provides better quality samples while reducing post-operative complications and costs related to conventional interventions.
In the same time, the Abderrahmen Mami CHU also introduced another innovative technique, the “Cryo Debulking”, intended for the removal of pulmonary tumors and the treatment of bronchial narrowing. This approach made it possible, during a recent intervention, to restore the respiratory function of a patient whose right lung was hitherto inactive.
