Trump evokes Tunisia, Bill Bazzi and Abraham agreements

US President Donald Trump recently organized an Iftar dinner at the White House to celebrate the sacred month of Ramadan.

This event took place on March 27, 2025 and brought together representatives of the American Muslim community as well as members of the Arab and Muslim diplomatic body accredited in Washington.

During this dinner, President Trump expressed his gratitude to American Muslims for their support in the 2024 presidential election.

Indeed, President Donald Trump notably thanked the mayors of Hamtramck and Dearborn Heights, Amer Ghalib and Bill Bazzi, for their support during the 2024 presidential election. He also announced their appointment as an ambassadors respectively in Kuwait and Tunisia, “two big countries” according to his statements.

However, Trump mainly mentioned the efforts of his administration to establish lasting peace in the Middle East, based on the Abraham agreements. These appointments are not, therefore, simply symbolic gestures: they are part of a strategic framework which could be linked to Trump’s will to strengthen and widen the impact of the Abraham agreements in the Arab countries.

The Abraham agreements, which have enabled diplomatic normalizations between Israel and several Arab countries, were a pillar of Trump’s foreign policy in the Middle East.

With these appointments, Trump could seek to capitalize on these strategies to promote deeper diplomatic relations, not only with the countries concerned by the Abraham agreements, but also with nations such as Tunisia, which occupies a key position in North Africa.
