On March 30, Earth Day, was a commemoration day for the Palestinian people. This day marks the memory of the bloody repression of a strike of the Palestinian people in 1976, protesting against the confiscation of their land by Israel. On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed, its total support for the Palestinian people and their struggle for the restitution of their rights.
In a statement, the ministry stresses that Tunisia “commemorates this day to honor the courage and resistance of the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli occupation and the spoliation policies of its land”. The symbolic date recalls the tireless fight of the Palestinians for their dignity, their sovereignty and the preservation of their identity.
The ministry also denounced the escalation of violence, particularly in Gaza and in the West Bank, and expressed its solidarity with the Palestinians confronted with the war crimes of the occupying regime. Tunisia stressed that these acts “are committed with impunity and in the blatant violation of the principles of international law”. The ministry also deplored the inaction of the international community, which, by its silence, lets these injustices last.
Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the firm commitment of Tunisia in favor of the creation of a sovereign Palestinian State, throughout its territory, with Al Quds as capital. Tunisia said that it will continue its diplomatic efforts to defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in international bodies and support any initiative to do justice to this oppressed people.
