The spokesperson for the Directorate General of the National Guard, Houssemeddine Jebabli, confirmed that the evacuation of migrant camps in an irregular situation, originally from sub-Saharan Africa and located in El Amra and Jebeniana in the governorate of Sfax, has continued since yesterday, Thursday. This initiative follows a gradual dismantling of the facilities peacefully.

The largest of these camps, housing around 4,000 people, was evacuated first, and the authorities continue the operation with the objective of emptying all the camps as soon as possible. All this is done without intervention of the police, but in coordination with the representatives of the Red Crescent, of the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection, who provided emergency care for migrants during dismantling, carried out on agricultural land.

Jebabli said that efforts are made to ensure temporary accommodation for pregnant women and children. At the same time, a large number of migrants have expressed their wish to voluntarily return to their country of origin. In Sfax, long queues were formed in front of the offices of the Tunisian Red Red Crescent, the international organization for migration and police stations, where these migrants have expressed their desire to return home.

In addition, several white weapons were seized during the operation, and some migrants were arrested. Their forced expulsion is now underway, according to the authorities. The operation thus continues, in a coordinated framework, aimed at regulating the situation while respecting the principles of security and humanism.
