An additional step has been taken in Tunisian-Italian cooperation in the customs field. An official signature ceremony of a “declaration of intent” was held Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the headquarters of the Tunisian Customs Directorate in Tunis.
The event took place under the supervision of the Director General of Tunisian Customs, the General Commander of the Guardia Di Finanza Italian (Financial Police), the Director General of the Italian Customs Agency as well as the Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, in the presence of several senior customs officials from the two countries.
This document marks the launch of a bilateral cooperation program aimed at strengthening the operational capacities of the two administrations, particularly in the fight against cross -border crime, money laundering and illegal traffic.
On this occasion, the Director General of Tunisian Customs underlined the importance of intensifying the exchange of expertise and developing joint activities to meet the common challenges in matters of customs and customs control, in accordance with the political will of the two countries.
For its part, the Italian ambassador to Tunis reaffirmed the commitment of his country to support the development of trade relations with Tunisia, by focusing on a strengthened partnership in the customs field in the service of common interests.
The General Commander of Guardia Di Finanza considered that this declaration is a new start for cooperation between the two institutions. He insisted on the adoption of a modern and pragmatic approach to customs work, based on data analysis, exchange of experiences and risk management to better fight against all forms of customs crime.
The Director General of the Italian Customs Agency also said that this agreement will coordinate efforts to combat illicit trade, encourage the formal economy and intensify the fight against smuggling.
During this meeting, an assessment of the cooperation actions carried out in 2024 was presented, as well as an overview of the activity program scheduled for the year 2025. The ceremony ended with the official signature of the declaration of intention by the various officials.
