The conspiracy trial against the internal security of the State, involving political figures and businessmen, was postponed to April 18, 2025. The court rejected a request for release, and tensions marked the hearing due to the procedure at a distance.

The Tunis court of first instance decided to postpone the examination of the conspiracy against the state security on April 18, 2025. The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs has also rejected the request for release of an accused detained.

The audience of April 11, 2025, marked by strong tensions, was suspended on several occasions due to differences on the holding of distance hearings, a procedure contested by the defense.

This trial, involving around forty political figures and businessmen, arouses lively reactions. Among the accused are Issam Chebbi, Ghazi Chaouachi, Jawhar Ben Mbarek, as well as the businessman Kamel Letaief.

Defense lawyers demanded a public trial, denouncing the camera imposed by justice. On the outskirts of the court, a massive security system was deployed, while activists chant slogans against a “political trial”.

The controversy also swells around the videoconference imposed on the accused. The “coordination of families of political prisoners” and several NGOs denounce a “serious judicial drift”, demanding public dissemination of hearings.

For its part, justice justifies these measures by national security imperatives, based on anti -terrorist laws.
