The Compagnie des Phosphates de Gafsa (CPG) recorded a significant increase in its production of commercial phosphate, by showing an increase of 18% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year.

This was announced by the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, during a working visit made this Friday in the governorate of Gafsa.

This performance, according to the Minister, is part of a revival dynamic of the sector, carried by a global rescue plan of the CPG. This plan is based in particular on a reinforced partnership between several ministerial departments, including those of the economy, finance, agriculture and the environment.

Fatma Thabet Chiboub clarified that the State undertakes to reform in depth the phosphate sector, with a perspective of sustainability. The objective is to improve industrial performance while preserving water resources and controlling energy consumption, two major issues in a context of ecological transition and resources.

Among the priorities are also the restructuring of three key companies linked to the mining sector, the Tifert (Tunisian-Indian fertilizer company), the Société de l’Environnement, de Plantation and Gardinage, and the Tunisian transport company for mining products.

The Minister also insisted on the need to diversify the economic fabric of Gafsa, in order to stimulate a more balanced regional development. She revealed that 20 economic projects remain at the end, mainly due to blockages related to banking financing.

Fatma Thabet Chiboub said that his department is working in coordination with the other ministries concerned to remove these obstacles and revitalize private investment in the region.
