Three students died and two others were injured on Monday April 14, in the collapse of a wall in the courtyard of the secondary school in Mazzouna, in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid. The wall, whose dilapidated had been reported, had not been the subject of any repair measure.
President Kaïs Saïed expressed his “deep pain” and denounced “serious administrative failures”. Receiving the government’s chief, Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri, at the Palais de Carthage, he recalled that an earthquake recorded in February had already weakened the structure. “This wall did not need experts or reports, but reconstruction,” he said.
The Head of State ordered the opening of an investigation to establish responsibilities and requested sanctions against those responsible for this negligence. He also demanded a national audit of school infrastructure and immediate security work in risky establishments.
For Kaïs Saïed, this incident illustrates the deep dysfunctions of the state apparatus. He called for a structural reform of public management, believing that the “legislative revolution” cannot lead without a transformation of mentalities within the administration.
