Yesterday Monday morning, Tunis officially welcomed 80 new urban buses, freshly landed from the port of La Goulette. New? Not quite. These vehicles, refurbished, come straight from the French capital where they had proudly transported athletes and spectators during the last Paralympic Games in Paris.
Behind this conversion to the Tunisian hides a donation agreement signed on January 27, 2025 between the Tunis Transport Society (TransTu), the Ile-de-France structure “Île-de-France Mobilités” and the Autonomous Régie des Transports Parisian (RATP). Result: a first wave of 80 buses out of a planned total of 165, all rewarded, revised and above all … adapted.
According to a press release published by Transu, vehicles will be put into circulation in the coming weeks. The second delivery, made up of 85 buses, is expected later.
These buses meet European environmental standards (Euro 5) and have a low floor, an automatic ramp facilitating access to people with reduced mobility, as well as a space reserved for wheelchair users. Some vehicles are also equipped with an air conditioning system, a video surveillance device and an automatic gearbox.
