The latest data from the National Observatory for Agriculture, published this Wednesday, reveal a drop in revenue from date exports, which dropped 640.8 million dinars in the first six months of the 2024/2025 season. This decrease represents a decrease of 5 % compared to the previous year.
The downturn nour, flagship variety of Tunisia, represents 94 % of these exports. The average price of the dates amounts to 6.40 dinars per kilogram, with an even higher price for the downturn, which reaches 7 dinars per kilogram.
In March 2025, the export price of the dates fell 1.6 %, to 5.99 dinars per kilogram, compared to March 2024. The quantities exported also decreased by 6.6 %, with a total of 100,100 tonnes, including 85.9 %of fuel fave.
The exports of organic dates fell, reaching 4,400 tonnes for a value close to 41 million dinars. The volumes decreased by 11.5 %, while the revenues fell by 30.5 % compared to the same period of the previous year.
These results highlight the challenges encountered by the dates sector in Tunisia, with pressure on prices and exported volumes, which could affect the country’s producers and exporters.
