Ahmed Néjib Chebbi, president of the National Salvation Front, said he was not surprised by the possible announcement of verdicts which he describes as “severe”, expected late in the night or early morning, as part of what the media call the “conspiracy against state security”.
During a rally of protest organized this morning by the coalition before the Tunis court of first instance, in parallel with the holding of the hearings of judgment of the detainees, Chebbi said, in the media, that any conviction will be the subject of an appeal, stressing that the peaceful political struggle will continue.
“Today we are living in dark episodes orchestrated by a political will that seeks to silence dissident voices and to criminalize peaceful and legal political action. We insist on the law of the accused at a public trial, the cornerstone of all justice, “he insisted.
As a reminder, this case dates back to February 2023, when a series of arrests targeted political figures, lawyers, former ministers and businessmen, accused of forming a group aimed at plotting against state security, both inside and outside the country.
