During a meeting yesterday, with the Minister of Health, the President of the Republic insisted on the urgency to refound the public health system and strengthen medical infrastructure throughout the territory, starting with Mazzouna.
The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, received this Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Palais de Carthage, the Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, for a meeting centered on the future of the public health sector in Tunisia this Friday 18 April 2025. This meeting marks a turning point in the will of the state to deeply reform a public medical system weakened by years of underinvestment, chronic shortages and regional disparities.
The Head of State notably underlined the need to rebuild the public health sector as a whole, by adapting it to the current needs of citizens. He ordered the implementation of urgent measures in the Mazzouna delegation, under the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, one of the regions most affected by the precariousness of health services. These measures concern both the strengthening of medical human resources and the rapid supply of suitable health equipment.
Beyond the case of Mazzouna, Kais Saied called to accelerate the construction of new hospitals in all regions of the country, recalling that access to quality care is a fundamental right and not a privilege reserved for large cities. He also mentioned the need for a global and inclusive approach, taking into account both medical logistics, the training of health executives and the fight against corruption in the sector.
This declaration comes in a context where many public hospitals suffer from serious dysfunctions, ranging from the lack of qualified personnel to the unavailability of basic medical equipment. Several social and union movements have, in recent months, denounced the deterioration of services and the gradual abandonment of public health structures.
The reconstruction of the public health sector promises to be a long -term site. It will not only require significant financial means, but also a constant political will, structural reforms and a national long -term health strategy.
