The Tunisian Consumer Defense Organization (ODC) has renewed its call for vigilance concerning the use of certain clothes, in particular underwear, containing components from oil and which can represent a danger to health.
Intervening Tuesday April 22, 2025 on national radio waves in the program “YAWM Saïd”, Thouraya Tabassi, vice-president of the OTDC, warned against the harmful effects of certain synthetic materials present in poor quality clothes. “These products can cause skin irritation, redness or even allergic reactions, especially in children,” she said, stressing that several cases have been noted.
According to the organization, some of these parts come from the smuggling, without clearly indicated origin or composition, and are sold in parallel circuits escaping any health control. A recent study has also revealed the presence of oil derivatives in articles of this type, which represents a real risk for the consumer.
Faced with this situation, the ODC recommends favoring clothing made of 100 %cotton, checking the quality of the fabrics and ensuring their traceability. It also calls on citizens to demand an invoice, even for the most common purchases, in order to be able to assert their rights in the event of a dispute.
Finally, the organization renews its encouragement to consume local. By opting for Tunisian products, the consumer gain safely while supporting the national economy.
