Tunisia ready to counter any demographic modification project

During a recent statement to the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP), the Minister of the Interior, Nourished Khaled, wanted to clarify the position of Tunisia in the face of increasing migratory pressures.

He affirmed bluntly: “Tunisia is neither a land of resettlement, nor a guardian of the borders of any other country. Nor is it a gendarme of the European space. A clear message addressed to both international partners and national public opinion.

According to him, the priority of the Tunisian authorities is to protect their own borders, both terrestrial and maritime, in all sovereignty.

Nouri has also insisted that Tunisia will not accept any project or plan aimed at altering the demographic composition of its population, declaring that the state is fully ready to face any attempt in this sense.

The Minister also stressed that Tunisia constitutes, in the majority of cases, a simple transit zone for migrants from sub -Saharan Africa. “The drop in risks linked to the maritime crossing from the Tunisian coasts makes our country a popular crossing point for irregular migratory flows,” he said.
