The Gafsa Phosphates Company (CPG) starts 2025 on the wheel. Its production of commercial phosphate climbed to 825,000 tonnes in the first quarter, an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year (680,000 tonnes), according to figures announced by its CEO, Abdelkader Amaïdi.
This rebound is explained in particular by better performance of production units, thanks to specific maintenance operations on equipment and laundromats. A strategy that seems to bear fruit.
CAP on 5.3 million tonnes in 2025
The CPG does not intend to stop there. It aims for an annual production of 5.3 million tonnes of commercial phosphate by the end of 2025, against 3.03 million tonnes in 2024. An ambitious objective, supported by major investments.
From 2026, the company plans to renew part of its extraction fleet, thanks to funding of 233 million dinars granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BERD). Expected result: 1.6 million tonnes of additional production capacity.
New industrial projects and green transition
The commissioning of the new laundromat “Oum Lakhcheb 1” is scheduled for 2027. It should generate an additional 2.6 million tonnes, further strengthening the rise of the CPG.
At the same time, the company relies on more responsible management of its water resources. A high -pressure filtration system will be installed in the Kef Eddour laundromat (cost: 20 MD), always with the support of the BERD. The objective is clear: to reuse 90% of worn industrial waters and relieve water tables. This device will be gradually extended to all laundries.
Last strategic axis: energy. The CPG provides for the installation of a photovoltaic power plant of 40 million dinars, in order to reach electric self -sufficiency. A key step towards more sustainable and resilient production.
