Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad, received, this Thursday, April 24, 2025, his Czech counterpart, Mr. Jan Lipavský, on the occasion of his working visit to Tunisia. The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made it possible to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation and the way in which the two countries could strengthen their links in the future.
During this working session, Mr. Nafti praised the solidity of friendships between Tunisia and the Czech Republic, marked by mutual respect and fruitful cooperation. He stressed the importance of bringing these relationships to a higher level, in particular as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This symbolic date represents a major opportunity to consolidate historical links and strengthen cooperation in several key areas.
Economic Forum and Dynamization of trade
One of the highlights of this meeting was the announcement of the opening of the Tuniso-Tchic Economic Forum, an event intended to explore the partnership opportunities between economic operators of the two countries. The ministers have exchanged messages calling for exploring collaboration opportunities in promising sectors. They also mentioned the development of bilateral trade, an area in which they expressed their satisfaction as to the positive development of economic relations between Tunisia and the Czech Republic.
Tourism, a growing sector
The ministers also welcomed the constant increase in the number of Czech tourists visiting Tunisia (around 150,000). This growing tourist flow is a positive indicator of cultural and economic links between the two nations. In this regard, they insisted on the importance of maintaining this dynamic and exploring new paths to further stimulate exchanges in this sector.
As part of their discussion on the partnership between Tunisia and the European Union, the two ministers highlighted the need to strengthen this partnership by relying on common values such as mutual respect, equality and cooperation on global issues. NAFTI also underlined the key role that the Czech Republic could play in supporting Tunisia’s positions within the EU, in particular in matters of foreign policy and development.
In addition to bilateral issues, ministers also addressed multilateral subjects, stressing the importance of strengthened cooperation within international organizations, especially the United Nations. They discussed the respective candidacies of the two countries within these institutions, and the way in which they could support each other to defend their interests.
They also exchanged views of regional issues of common interest, including security and stability in the Mediterranean region and beyond, as well as the importance of working together to promote sustainable development and world peace.
Signature of an agreement memorandum
In conclusion of this meeting, the two ministers presided over the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the International Diplomatic Academy of Tunis and the Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Republic. This agreement, aimed at strengthening academic and diplomatic exchanges between the two countries, is an important step in the development of long -term bilateral relations.
