Tunisia has lost, today one of its most respected figures in the diplomatic, economic and sporting world. Taher Sioud, former minister and ambassador, died at the age of 87 in France, marking the end of an exceptional journey in the service of his country.

He notably held the post of vice-government of the Central Bank of Tunisia, where he played a crucial role in the management of the country’s monetary and financial policy.

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, he advanced Tunisian diplomacy before becoming Minister of Commerce from 2003 to 2005. One of the culminating points of Taher Sioud’s diplomatic career was his role as an ambassador of Tunisia to the United Arab Emirates, then in Belgium and in the countries of the Benelux from 1995 to 1998. These missions were an opportunity for him to strengthen bilateral relations between Tunisia and these strategic regions, and to promote the interests of his country on the international scene.
