As the start of the school year approaches, the Ministry of Education has announced a series of measures ranging from the creation of additional infrastructure and educational spaces to the introduction of modern equipment and security devices, in order to improve learning conditions and protect students.
What has changed this year
Anis Kouki, director general of constructions and equipment at the Ministry of Education, said that:
“17 new schools have been created and 336 new spaces (classrooms, laboratories, sports spaces, etc.) added. In addition, 325 establishments have benefited from a complete rehabilitation program (painting, carpentry, electrical networks, rainwater evacuation). More than 85,000 double tables and various equipment have been provided, 100 % covering the needs of 5,700 educational spaces ”.
Student security and protection
Kouki also revealed that in terms of safety and self -protection for schools, a new program was launched last year with the installation of surveillance cameras in colleges and high schools. This year, experience was generalized in primary schools, covering around 590 schools.
This program mainly aims to secure the school environment, inside and outside, against any risky behavior that can threaten it.
A digital and scientific jump
With regard to computer equipment for laboratories, the director general of construction and equipment announced that the ministry provided more than 17,000 office computers, in addition to 2,260 mobile laboratories for colleges and high schools, the distribution of which began and will be completed in early September 2025.
Evacuation of the dangerous substances of laboratories
He added that, for the first time in the history of the Ministry of Education, a contract was concluded with a specialized company, in cooperation with the National Waste Management Agency, for the evacuation of dangerous and chemical substances present in schools.
The evacuation operation has actually started, with the treatment of 7.5 tonnes of dangerous substances in 8 regional delegations, while waiting to finalize the rest.
