Tunisia is experiencing a drop in press freedom, according to the 2025 world ranking of reporters Without Borders (RSF), published this Thursday, May 2. The country lost 11 places, going from the 118th position in 2024 to the 129th in 2025, thus recording the strongest regression in North Africa.
This decline is also visible in the overall score assigned by RSF, which measures press freedom on a scale from 0 to 100. Tunisia fell from 49.97 points in 2024 to 43.43 points in 2025.
RSF explains this regression by the multiplication of political pressures and legal proceedings against journalists.
With this 129th place, Tunisia fell not only on a global scale but is now found behind several African and Arab countries, such as Morocco (118th) or Lebanon (107th).
