36,467 economic offenses and 1575 tonnes of products entered at the end of April 2025

The economic control teams under the Ministry of Commerce and Export Development recorded 36,467 economic offenses and entered more than 1,575 tonnes of food products during the first four months of 2025, according to data from the Directorate General for Competition and Economic Surveys.

This figure marks an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2024, where 35,458 offenses had been identified.

Between January and April 2025, nearly 235,000 control operations were carried out throughout the territory, mobilizing 9,977 teams. To strengthen this system, the ministry provides for the recruitment of 194 new agents, after a national competition.

The most frequent types of offenses

The offenses observed cover several components:

Price exceedments and monopolistic practices: 11,232 offenses
Lack of transparency in transactions: 19,464 offenses
Fraud on subsidies: 395 offenses
Infractions related to quality, metrology and other sectors: 5376 cases

The most affected sectors

On the sectoral level, the offenses are distributed as follows:

Fresh agricultural and maritime products: 16,729 offenses
General food products: 11,748 offenses
Bakeries, cafes and restaurants: 3639 offenses
Various industrial products: 4351 offenses

Large quantities of entered products

The entry operations made it possible to confiscate a total of 1,575 tonnes of foodstuffs, including:

695 tonnes of subsidized cereals
539 tonnes of vegetables and fruit
63 tonnes of sugar
28 tonnes of white meats
250 tonnes of cattle food
16,900 eggs
17,777 liters of subsidized vegetable oil
11,511 liters of milk
54,956 Cigarette packs

Sanctions in the bakery sector

The fight against irregularities was also resulted in 205 closing decisions against classified bakeries and 26 for unopassed bakeries. These administrative measures included the ban on subsidized flour supply, category change, reduction of quotas, and, in some cases, final closure.

In addition, 8 sanctions were taken in the derivative grain products sector, and 18 in that of subsidized vegetable oil.
