Towards the creation of a support fund for the elderly

A group of 11 deputies submitted, last April, a bill to the office of the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) aimed at establishing a National Fund for Aid to the Elderly.

This fund, intended for citizens aged 65 and over, aims to guarantee a dignified life to this fringe of the population, while supporting the efforts of the State in matters of social care.

The management of the fund would be entrusted to the ministry of family, women, childhood and the elderly, reports the agency TAP.

According to article 3 of the proposed legislative text, the fund would include the creation of a “service support service” as well as a “senior card”, allowing beneficiaries to access specific advantages, such as free accommodation costs in public centers for the elderly.

Holders of this card could also benefit from reduced prices in public transport, tourist and hospital establishments, with an encouragement of investment in the elder protection sector.

The fund would be fed by an annual state subsidy, fixed by the finance law; samples from retirement pensions; dedicated donations and credits.
