Tunisia strengthens its university hospitals in medical equipment

Tunisia received, this Monday, an important donation of medical equipment offered by Japan, intended to equip several university hospital establishments in the country, including the La Rabta university hospital in Tunis.

Of an estimated value of 300 million Japanese yen (approximately 6.2 million Tunisian dinars), this gift includes in particular 20 devices of gastric endoscopy and colonoscopes, as well as specialized material in cardiology. This equipment will particularly benefit from the “B” and cardiology of the RABTA gastroenterology services, as well as to the other university hospital centers.

During the discount ceremony organized at the RABTA, the Japanese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hisashi Matsumoto, stressed that this contribution aims to support the Tunisian public health system, by consolidating its technical and medical capacities.

The Tunisian Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, praised this gesture of cooperation, claiming that this material will improve the diagnosis of colorectal cancer and to perfect the use of bloating for coronary angioplasty – a Japanese technology already controlled by the Tunisian cardiology teams.

Ferjani also expressed Tunisia’s wish to strengthen, thanks to this partnership, the development of telemedicine and the digitization of medical services, with a view to equitable access to public health.

In this context, Tunisia will soon welcome, in collaboration with the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA), training sessions for African doctors, focused on the use of cardiac catheterization equipment.
