In April 2025, the Tunisian Water Observatory (ITE) recorded a total of 206 citizen alerts linked to problems of access to water, according to its report entitled “La Carte de la thirst”, published this Monday.
The main reasons reported include 169 alerts relating to water cuts not communicated by the National Water Operation and Distribution Company (Sonede). In addition, 19 alerts relate to protest movements of the inhabitants, claiming their right to a supply of drinking water. Finally, 15 alerts are linked to leaks within the national water distribution network.
Médenine is the most affected governorate, with 27 alerts identified, followed by Gafsa (23 alerts) and Sfax (21 alerts). These data underline increasing tensions concerning water access, a vital issue for many regions of the country.
