The Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Fethi Nouri, revealed that Tunisians residing abroad perform transfers of around 120 dollars per person and per month, while the global average amounts to 200 dollars.

This declaration was made during an international workshop on “the contribution of diasporas to the promotion of investment and the realization of sustainable development”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.

In his intervention at the opening of this workshop, held this Tuesday at the headquarters of the diplomatic academy in Tunis, the governor specified that the transfers of Tunisians abroad made it possible to reimburse between 1.3 % and 1.4 % of the debt in currencies. He also indicated that at the end of 2024, these transfers represented around 30 % of the country’s currency reserves.

These transfers reached the equivalent of 5.6 % of the gross domestic product (GDP), he added, stressing that estimates show that Tunisians residing abroad contribute 2 % to the economic fabric, and that 50 % of them have real estate investments in Tunisia.

Tunisia has recorded sustained growth in the volume of transfers of Tunisian expatriates, exceeding 2 billion dinars, according to statements by the governor, which stressed that a large share of these funds is intended for consumption. However, he insisted on the need to integrate them more effectively into the national economy through beneficial investment projects for the country.
