The security forces led overnight on Wednesday to Thursday to a vast operation against drug trafficking networks, leading to the arrest of 217 individuals, qualified by the authorities of “dangerous criminals”.
The intervention, coordinated between the units of the national police, the National Guard and the local prosecutors, has targeted several sensitive districts and rural areas of the governorates of Kairouan and Sidi Bouzid.
According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, the operation enabled the seizure of 7,614 narcotics of narcotics, some of which classified as psychotropic drugs, as well as money suspected of coming from traffic and vehicles sought for their involvement in illicit activities.
This large -scale offensive is part of a national plan to combat drug trafficking, aimed at dismantling networks operating in regions of the country’s interior, often used as relay points for redistribution to other areas.
The 217 suspects were placed in police custody while waiting for their presentation to justice. Surveys have been opened to identify possible links between arrested individuals and international networks.
