The emblematic radio host Adel Youssef, an essential figure of Tunisian radio, died this Sunday at the age of 86, according to an announcement published by Tunisian radio on its Facebook page.

Born on October 29, 1939 under the name of Adel Awad Abdel Latif, Adel Youssef is the son of an Egyptian father and a Tunisian mother.

Nicknamed by the public the “Rossignol de la Radio”, he spent more than 50 years behind the microphone.

He began his radio career in 1952 in the theater department, before being absent three years and then returning in 1959 to continue his career until 2005.

He particularly became known thanks to the program “Ibra wa Nagham” (Lesson et Mélodie), as well as the Ramadanesque program “Tahiyat al-Ghoroub” (tribute to twilight), later renamed “Ramadhan Mal’an Voubina” (Ramadan filled our hearts), broadcast without interruption for 40 years.
