The Tunis court of first instance, ruling in criminal matters, made severe verdicts on Monday against an international drug trafficking network. Five members of the same band received sentences ranging from 15 to 20 years in prison, with an individual fine of 50,000 dinars.
These convictions follow the seizure of 60 kg of cannabis (commonly called “zattla”) carefully hidden in a vehicle arrived at the port of La Goulette. The drug was discovered thanks to the passage of the suspicious car to the scanner.
The investigation revealed that the accused was part of a structured network operating in the importation of narcotics from abroad to Tunisia. They aimed to distribute the goods in working -class neighborhoods. During their interrogation, the members of the group admitted to be involved in traffic for some time.
This case once again illustrates the growing risks linked to transnational drug trafficking and the key role of ports in this type of illegal operations.
