Opening of social negotiations in the private sector, May 19

Social negotiations in the private sector will officially begin on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Affairs, according to information reported by the Echaab News site, the official media of the Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT).

This first session will mark the launch of a new cycle of talks between the government and the UGTT. A preparatory meeting was held on May 9, bringing together the representatives of the ministry and those of the union center.

The two parties had agreed to set a date for the official opening of discussions, devoted to the demands of employees in the private sector, in particular in terms of wages, working conditions and social legislation.

This round of negotiations is a continuation of the social dialogue established between the social partners to adapt the collective agreements to the economic developments of the country. The UGTT had recently insisted on the need for a structured dialogue relating to both financial aspects – such as salary adjustments to inflation – and regulatory aspects, such as employment safety, working hours or social coverage.

The union has repeatedly alerted to the erosion of the purchasing power of private sector workers and has requested urgent measures to guarantee real social justice. For its part, employers should assert the economic difficulties encountered by certain branches of activity, in a context of soft growth and tax pressure.
