The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received Wednesday May 14, 2025, at the Palais de Carthage, the Minister of Finance Miskah Salama El Khaldi. This meeting was devoted to the examination of the functioning of the various structures of his ministry, in a context of increasing economic pressures.
The Head of State insisted on the need to break with exceeded economic choices, stressing that the current mechanisms no longer meet the challenges of the hour. He gave instruction to simplify customs procedures and to facilitate the reintegration of Tunisians residing abroad, especially during this period of critical tax deadlines.
Indeed, many expatriates are confronted with cases of double taxation, in particular with countries like Japan, with which no bilateral agreement exists. Article 36 of the income tax code exempts foreign income already declared abroad, but the practice is sometimes inconsistent.
