A new twist took place this Thursday in the murder case of the young Rahma, which occurred in 2020 in Ain Zaghouan and who had deeply shocked Tunisian public opinion. The investigating judge of the Tunis Court of First Instance ordered the placement in detention of Mehdi Ben Gharbia, former minister and well -known businessman of the political scene.

According to concordant judicial sources, this decision is linked to new elements of investigation in connection with this file classified for a time.
The name of Mehdi Ben Gharbia, so far never quoted in the case, would have recently emerged thanks to in -depth investigations, without the authorities not specifying the exact nature of his involvement.

As a reminder, the young Rahma Lahmar, 29, had been found dead in September 2020 in a vacant lot in Ain Zaghouan, a few days after her disappearance. The emotion aroused by this brutal crime had given rise to a wave of indignation on social networks and calls to strengthen security devices for women.

A man, a repeat offender, had been arrested soon after and confessed the murder. Judged, he had been sentenced to capital punishment. The case therefore seemed to be resolved.
