This Friday, May 16, 2025, the press council formalized the distribution of functions within its office, following the finalization of its composition. This announcement was relayed by the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT).
Manoubi Marrouki was appointed Chairman of the Council, with Hanene Zbiss as vice-president. The office also has the following members: Omar Oueslati, Khalil Jelassi, Fatin Hafsia, Mohamed Larousi Ben Salah, Taoufik Ahmed and Najet Zammouri.
The presidencies of the permanent commissions were allocated as follows: Omar Oueslati chairs the complaint management committee, Mouna MTIBAA is at the head of the Training and Cooperation Commission, and Khalil Jelassi directs the Ethics Commission.
The main missions of the Press Council is to support professional journalism and ensure the quality of media practices. He also takes care to preserve the independence of the media in the face of any form of interference.
The institution closely follows the legislative and political developments likely to impact press freedom and the right of access to information. It formulates opinions on the draft laws relating to the profession and offers measures to modernize the sector.
In addition, the Council contributes to the organization of the continuing education of journalists and encourages media education. It also develops partnerships with national and international organizations sharing the same objectives, in order to promote the exchange of experiences.
