The first cycle of the “Tunisia project”, launched by Fincantieri, the Italian leader in shipbuilding, as part of the Italy-Africa “Piano Mattei” strategic plan, has successfully completed. Twenty young Tunisians received their diploma after intensive training mixing civic education, learning Italian and naval welding techniques, reports the Ansa agency.

The ceremony was held, on May 15, 2025, in La Goulette, in the presence of the Italian ambassador to Tunis, Alessandro PRUNAS, as well as officials from Fincantieri and Tunisian partners. This project was made possible thanks to a collaboration between Fincantieri, the Centro Elis, the Agenzia Orienta, the Tunisian maritime cluster, the conect, the Environmental Infrastructure Academy and the company Palecandolo CNT.

For almost 300 hours, the participants took courses at La Goulette and Bizerte, combining linguistic training, civic culture, labor security and manual welding. This initiative meets the need for qualified labor in the Italian naval sector.

At the end of the training, graduates will be hired in Italy by Fincantieri or its subcontractors, with regular employment contracts, within the framework of the Cutro decree which secures professional mobility.

Luciano Sale, Director of Human Resources of Fincantieri, stressed that this project reflects the group’s desire to invest in human capital beyond borders, promoting competitiveness and social integration.

The “Tunisia project” is an innovative model for bilateral cooperation, which combines training, employment and shared development, strengthening economic and cultural ties between Tunisia and Italy.
