The accusation chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal examines this Thursday, May 22, 2025 a request for release in favor of Me Ahmed Souab, lawyer and former magistrate.
In a statement released yesterday, the Defense Committee said that this request follows the refusal of the investigating judge to decide on a first appeal in this direction. Lawyers denounce what they call “arbitrary detention” and claim that Me Souab is prosecuted because of its positions in favor of a fair trial and its activism for fundamental freedoms.
“It is today the target of a blatant injustice,” said defense, calling political forces, civil society actors and human rights defenders to mobilize.
Arrested on April 21 and then placed in police custody, Ahmed Souab was the subject of a warrant of deposit issued on April 23 by the investigating judge with the judicial center to fight terrorism after his appearance within the said judicial center within the framework of an open investigation for him, in connection with his critical public declarations with regard to the criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs.
