An attempted drug trafficking was thwarted by the Tunisian customs services at the port of La Goulette Nord. According to an official press release, the agents intercepted a share of 5,000 ecstasy tablets carefully hidden in a children’s toy – in this case a miniature motorcycle – found among the luggage of a traveler from the port of Genoa, in Italy.
The operation took place during a routine inspection of vehicles and personal effects of passengers landing a ferry connecting Genoa to Tunis. Attracted by suspicious clues in the suitcase of a passenger, the agents carried out in -depth control of his business.
It was inside the motorcycle-Jouet, skillfully transformed to camouflage the tablets, that the illegal goods were discovered.
The traveler involved was immediately placed in police custody. An investigation was opened by the competent services in order to identify possible accomplices and to retrace the origin of the drug, which seems to have been intended for the Tunisian market, or even a larger distribution network.
