Dr. Majed Zemni received the Nelson Mandela Prize on Friday in Geneva on Friday for health promotion 2025, awarded by the World Health Organization (WHO). This prestigious prize welcomes an exceptional journey in the service of public health, in Tunisia and internationally.
The WHO highlighted the progress of the Tunisian health system, placing the country among the five winners of this world prize. Recognition of the role of Tunisia as a regional reference in terms of health.
Former president of the Tunisian Association of Legal Medicine, Dr Zemni distinguished himself by his commitment to the rights to health and human dignity, in particular in times of crisis, as during the pandemic of COVID-19. He has drawn up respectful protocols for the care of the deceased and participated in the drafting of key laws on patient rights and medical responsibility.
He also worked to strengthen services intended for vulnerable people – especially people living with HIV, prisoners, women and children victims of violence. He has led several national and international training courses, and consolidated the role of the ONFP as an WHO collaborating center.
In 2013, he led a Pan -African session on reproductive health, in partnership with the Japanese agency JICA, illustrating its role as regional leader in health policies.
