The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) announced, this Saturday, May 25, the commissioning of a new high -voltage airline line with a capacity of 150,000 volts in the governorate of Tozeur. This strategic infrastructure marks a new step in strengthening the South Tunisian electricity network.
According to a press release published on the official STEG page, this line now liaises between the Tozeur electric station and the photovoltaic power plant of Tozeur 2. It aims to facilitate the integration of solar energy produced locally in the national network, while improving the stability and security of electricity supply in the region.
This project is part of the national energy transition efforts, carried out by the objective of bringing the share of renewable energies to 35 % of the energy mix by 2030. It also reflects the commitment of the authorities to enhance the solar potential of the South Tunisian, in particular in desert areas with strong sunshine as tozeur.
As a reminder, the TOZEUR 2 photovoltaic power plant, with a production capacity of 10 MW, is one of the most recent initiatives in the field of clean energy in Tunisia. It is added to the already active Tozeur 1 power station, thus strengthening the position of the region as an energy center in the making.
