The UGTT National Congress set for March 25, 26 and 27, 2026

The next National Congress of the Tunisian Labor General Union (UGTT) will be held on March 25, 26 and 27, 2026, confirmed a union source this Thursday, May 29.

This particularly awaited deadline is of capital importance for the future of the most powerful union center in the country, in a tense socio-economic context and while several internal and national challenges arise for the organization.

The announcement comes at the end of a meeting of the UGTT administrative committee, held for three days in Hammamet-Sud. During this session, the members of the committee worked on a series of crucial files, including the country’s social situation, wage demands, persistent tensions between sectoral unions and executive power, as well as the future of tripartite negotiations (government, employers, union).

The congress, which will be held at the end of the first quarter of 2026, should be marked by the renewal of the organization’s management structures, including the National Executive Office. The current secretary general, Noureddine Taboubi, could run for a new mandate, although internal votes call for a generational renewal and a reform of union governance.

Internal sources also indicate that the work of the congress will address the UGTT strategic roadmap for the coming years, including relations with the government, the management of social conflicts in the health, education and transport sectors, as well as the position of the power plant on major economic reforms initiated by the State.

The UGTT, which has several hundred thousand members, retains a major political and social weight in Tunisia. His next congress is therefore perceived as a decisive step in the rebalancing of social dialogue and the structuring of the power relations to come.
