Tunisia begins a strategic turning point for its agriculture. On Thursday, Heikel Hachlef, chief of staff to the Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries, announced the official launch of the development of the agricultural development plan 2026-2030. This plan is part of a long -term vision on 2035, centered on resilient, sustainable, inclusive and supported by water and food safety.

This vision, unveiled during the meeting devoted to the implementation of plan piloting committees, is based on several structuring axes: improving production and productivity while guaranteeing quality, use natural resources in a sustainable way, and actively adapt to climate change. It is also a question of setting up a globally inclusive agricultural ecosystem, supervised by an adapted institutional system.

According to the ministry’s press release, future programs and projects from this vision will aim for qualitative progress in the efficiency of public agricultural policies. This involves in particular an in -depth diagnosis of the current situation, in order to identify the real development challenges.
Food and water safety: national priority

For Hachlef, the quest for food and water safety is now a central axis of agricultural economic policies. This requires massive investments to mobilize both conventional and unconventional water resources, modernize production methods, integrate new technologies and support small farmers.

The chief of staff stressed that this plan constitutes a crucial opportunity to assess past achievements, adjust political choices, and open the way to a new development phase based on innovation and efficiency.

He also insisted on the importance of a participatory and upward approach in the choice of programs and projects. This method aims to establish a fair and global development dynamic, taking into account the regional specificities and the realities on the ground.

Finally, he recommended a rigorous selection of projects, based on their economic, social and environmental profitability, based on the results of existing studies, strategies and research, while respecting the budgetary balances of the State.
