Tension rises in the media sector. The National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) expressed, Thursday, May 29, 2025, its categorical rejection of the final dismissal of Sofiane Rajeb, former director and editor -in -chief of the press institution Dar Assabah, as well as a journalist who worked for 32 years in the same house.
In a statement, the union describes this decision as “arbitrary measure”, taken at the end of a disciplinary council held on May 5, 2025. The SNJT estimates that the reasons invoked are unfounded and called into question by Sofiane Rajeb and his defense team.
According to the same source, the dismissal would be linked to Rajeb possession of an electronic site created 11 years ago, with the approval of Dar Assabah officials.
Also according to the union, the journalist had ceased any involvement in this site as soon as his appointment at the head of the editorial staff, which several written testimonies confirm.
The SNJT denounces an unjust and disproportionate decision, which, according to her, is part of a disturbing tendency to weaken press freedom and the rights of journalists in Tunisia.
He calls for the management of Dar Assabah to return to his decision and to respect the professional and legal guarantees of journalists, while reaffirming his commitment to defend his members against any form of injustice or reprisals.
