National television broadcast a live duplex yesterday from a field of olive trees in Sfax, a few hours after the evacuation of sub -Saharan migrants installed on the scene.
The system was aimed, according to the chain officials, to illustrate the restitution of the land for its initial agricultural use. The objective announced: to reassure public opinion and underline the return to “normality”.
But very quickly, the sequence became viral on social networks, where it was largely mocked.
The contrast between the severity of the migratory situation and the bucolic framework chosen for the duplex has aroused misunderstanding. Many have denounced a clumsy or even disconnected staging, where the television set which was installed between the olive trees, evoked the “restoration of state sovereignty” against the background of birds of birds.
Beyond the form, it is the background of the disturbing message. Internet users and human rights associations see it as an attempt at forced “normalization”, without taking into account the human reality experienced by migrants. The absence of contradictory voices or independent testimonies in the duplex has strengthened criticism of biased public information.
