Tunisia – Ticad 9: The head of the government received by the Emperor of Japan

On the occasion of the 9ᵉ Tokyo International Conference on the development of Africa (Ticad 9), the Tunisian government’s heading, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, led, from August 20 to 22, 2025, a series of institutional and diplomatic meetings in Tokyo, Japan.

Audiences at the Imperial Palace and with the Japanese Prime Minister

Friday August 22, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri was received at the Imperial Palace by the Emperor and the Empress of Japan. She transmitted the greetings of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, and recalled the nearly 70 years of Tunisian-Japanese relations.

In a statement published this Sunday by the Presidency of the Government on Sunday, it is emphasized that the government’s heading called for strengthening these relations, in particular through the development of economic cooperation and the intensification of Japanese investments in Tunisia.

In addition, Zenzri had bilateral interviews with African heads of state and government, as well as an meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, to discuss the opportunities for collaboration and investment.

Meeting with the Tunisian community in Japan

In parallel with its official agenda, the government’s heading met on Friday at the Tunisia Embassy in Tokyo, members of the Tunisian community residing in Japan. Ambassador Ahmed Chafra and leaders of the Presidency of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present.

During this meeting, Zenzri reaffirmed the attention paid to Tunisians abroad, qualifying the expatriates as ambassadors of Tunisia in their respective posts and calling them to strengthen the bridges between their host country and Tunisia.

She listened to the concerns of the participants and assured that their proposals would be taken into account, considering them as partners of the national project. The members of the community, for their part, have expressed their commitment to serve Tunisia since their respective positions.
