A multidisciplinary medical team from the Fattouma Bourguiba de Monastir university hospital successfully completed a liver transplant on an 8 -year -old child. The intervention, coordinated with the national center for the promotion of organ transplants, was made possible thanks to the donation of a liver lobe by the father of the young patient.
The operation, mobilizing several medical specialties, took place under controlled conditions and led to a favorable outcome. To mark this success, a symbolic ceremony was organized yesterday in the hospital establishment, in the presence of the nursing staff and relatives of the patient, said the Ministry of Health in a press release published on its Facebook page.
This medical act, praised by professionals as a fine example of family solidarity and surgical success, highlights the importance of organ donation in Tunisia. It also illustrates the advances in public hospital structures in matters of pediatric transplants.
The hospital officials expressed their gratitude to all the members of the medical profession who contributed to this intervention, stressing on this occasion that “organ donation is an act of life, carrying hope for many families”.
