While the main suspect in the assassination of Hichem Miraoui in France recognized the facts but denied any racist motivation, the Tunisian authorities continue their diplomatic steps to obtain the truth and guarantee the security of their nationals.
Christophe B., The man accused of having killed Hichem Miraoui, a Tunisian national of Puget-sur-Argens in the Var (France), recognized the facts before the anti-terrorist judge, this Thursday, June 5, 2025, but denied any racist or terrorist mobile.
The national anti -terrorist prosecution (PNAT), seized because of the alleged racist character of the act, requested its indictment for terrorist assassination motivated by race, religion or ethnic group, and its placement in pre -trial detention.
The first elements of the investigation, supported in particular by the publication of hateful videos before and after the facts, nevertheless suggest a racial motivation. The shooter also injured a young man of Turkish origin, before being arrested by the gendarmerie.
In Tunisia, the case arouses strong emotion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he followed the file in coordination with the French authorities, in order to guarantee the rights of Tunisians abroad and prevent the repetition of such crimes. The Tunisia Embassy in Paris immediately contacted the French authorities as soon as the victim’s identity is confirmed.
The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, firmly condemned the crime, which he described as “racist” and even “terrorist” during an interview with the Ambassador of Tunisia and a visit to the embassy on June 3. He presented his condolences to the deceased family and the Tunisian community.
For his part, the Tunisian Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, demanded the reinforced protection of Tunisians residing in France and called for a preventive approach against hatred speeches and crimes motivated by intolerance.
