From August 4, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce fixes maximum prices for the potato and supervises retail margins on fish, in order to combat inflation, speculation and informal circuits.

The Ministry of Commerce and Export Development announced, Friday, August 1, a series of measures intended to strengthen the purchasing power of consumers and to limit speculative practices on basic foodstuffs. These measures mainly concern:

Priced price and margins

The fixing of ceilings for the potato:

  • 1650 millimes/kg in terms of warehouses,
  • 2000 millimes/kg large,
  • 2500 millimes/kg in detail.

The establishment of a maximum profit margin of 25% on the fish sold to the gross state, calculated from the purchase prices justified by invoices.

Judicial sanctions for offenders

The ministry insists on the obligation for all stakeholders (producers, wholesalers, retailers) to justify their professional status, to comply with the legal marketing circuits, and to scrupulously respect the prices set.

Offenders are exposed to the immediate seizure of products and maximum judicial and administrative sanctions.

This decision is part of a series of similar measures taken by the government in recent months in the face of inflation, particularly in the agricultural sector. The ministry has observed an upsurge in illicit practices: speculation, monopoly, informal sales.

The ministry also calls on citizens to refuse to buy at illegal prices and report abuses via official channels.
