Tunisia: Civil protection calls for vigilance, even under a clear sky

While the beaches attract many summer visitors, civil protection warns against the dangers of swimming, even when the sun is there. The sea remains dangerous and the recklessness can be fatal.

Call for prudence

In a press release published on his official Facebook page, the Civil Protection spokesman launched an appeal to absolute prudence at sea. Despite the sunny time, the sea can remain agitated and unpredictable, making swimming dangerous.

The authority thus recommends checking the state of the sea before entering it, never bathing alone, and following the instructions of the rescuers and civil protection agents deployed on the beaches.

Recommendations

Civil protection urges citizens to avoid any swim when the sea is agitated, closely monitor the children, even at shallow, refrain from diving into rocky or shallow areas, avoid risky games at sea, call the 198 in an emergency.

Each summer, Tunisia records several drownings due to an underestimation of risks at sea, especially during apparently calm days. In 2024, the authorities had already recalled that the majority of drownings occur in good weather, when the bathers believe themselves out of danger.
