As part of the mid-term assessment of the Tunisian beaches cleaning program, and until the first week of August 2025, interventions were carried out on all the beaches concerned, with an overall rate of progress estimated at 80 %.

The Ministry of the Environment indicated that around 8,000 m³ of waste has been collected, an average of 6 m³ per day for each beach. These quantities vary from one site to another, the largest having been noted at the RAFRAF beach, with an average of 12 m³ per day.

For 2025, the cleaning program provides interventions on 133 beaches, covering 192 km of coastline and a total area of approximately 5,739 hectares, by counting all operations.

They are divided between the beaches under tourist municipalities (51 beaches) and public beaches (82 beaches). The program includes rating and regular mechanical sieving of sand, as well as manual cleaning of dunes and access to beaches.

The coastal protection and development agency, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, continues the implementation of this program, jointly funded with the tourist areas protection fund and in coordination with the various coastal municipalities. The cleaning work started in May 2025 and will continue until next September.

Every day, Tunisian beaches are crumbling under 8,000 m³ of waste
