The Ministry of Health said, in a statement, that no case of contamination by the Chikungunya virus was registered in the country, following current screening and monitoring operations.
He said that all the necessary measures have been taken to strengthen health surveillance, vigilance and epidemiological monitoring in all regions, as well as at the entry points of the territory via border health control services.
The ministry also assured that all the structures under its authority are ready to implement the necessary preventive measures, both at national and regional level, in order to deal with any evolution concerning this virus or possible health emergencies.
He called on citizens and the media to refer only to official sources to find out and not to yield to rumors or unbeknop information.
Recalling that chikungunya is not a new virus, but that it has been circulating for several years, especially in tropical regions, the ministry specified that it is mainly transmitted by the tiger mosquito bites (Aedes). He thus recommends that travelers for these areas to take the necessary precautions before their departure.
