The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, made in the afternoon of August 11, 2025 an unexpected visit to the building which will house the headquarters of the Superior Education and Education Council, according to a press release published on the official page of the Presidency of the Republic.

Saïed has recommended accelerating the restoration of this building and providing the necessary reforms as soon as possible, so that this constitutional institution can be installed and start its missions in the best conditions, after the complete finalization of its legislative and regulatory framework, in accordance with decree n ° 2 of 2024, dated September 16, 2024, and decree No. 246 of the year 2025, dated May 8 2025.

THE Higher Education and Teaching Council is a constitutional consultative body established by the Tunisian Constitution of 2022. Its mission is to issue opinions on national policies in matters of education, teaching, scientific research, vocational training and employment.

It aims to improve the quality of the Tunisian school, to guarantee equitable access to education, to promote the use of digital technology and to prepare future generations for labor market developments, while protecting them from any political instrumentalization. Its composition brings together several ministers concerned by the educational and cultural sectors, designated experts, as well as a invited union representative when the agenda affects union rights.
